TDK extends the DC working voltage of its InsuGate SMT gate drive transformers to 1000 V

TDK Expands EPCOS InsuGate Series with 1 kV-Rated SMT Gate Drive Transformers for High-Performance Power Electronics

TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) has expanded its EPCOS InsuGate series of surface-mount (SMT) gate drive transformers with new models rated for DC working voltages up to 1000 V (ordering code: B78541A25). Designed to meet IEC 61558-1/2-16 standards for basic insulation, these new variants support more compact and reliable gate driver designs—particularly in full-bridge inverter modules used in e-mobility and industrial applications.

The components feature a triple-insulated winding structure, a MnZn ferrite core, and an optimized coil design, providing robust isolation performance in high-frequency switching environments while minimizing board space usage. With compact dimensions of 13.85 x 10.5 x 9.2 mm (L x W x H), the 1 kV-rated models reduce PCB footprint by approximately 30% compared to conventional single gate drive transformers with similar insulation capabilities.

These transformers offer stable performance across a wide temperature range, maintaining a flat inductance profile up to +150 °C. They deliver a nominal inductance of 75 µH and a low coupling capacitance of just 4 pF, making them well-suited for fast-switching IGBT and SiC applications. SPICE models are available upon request for design simulation and integration.

Qualified to AEC-Q200 Rev. E and tested under AQG 324 conditions using a standard Eurocard PCB, the series has demonstrated durability under extended mechanical vibration. It also features a partial discharge extinction voltage of ≥1.2 kV (Vpeak), reinforced insulation voltage capability of 300 V (AC), and a high-voltage withstand of 3 kV (AC) for 60 seconds—ensuring dependable galvanic isolation in next-generation power electronic systems.
