Teledyne Completes Acquisition of Saab’s TransponderTech, Expanding its Leadership in Maritime Communication and Navigation Technologies
Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) (“Teledyne”) today announced the successful completion of its acquisition of TransponderTech, a division previously owned by Saab AB. The business will now operate as Teledyne FLIR TransponderTech AB, joining Teledyne’s distinguished family of maritime and sensing technology brands, including Raymarine, FLIR Marine, ChartWorld, and Teledyne CARIS.
This strategic acquisition further strengthens Teledyne’s leadership in advanced maritime technology and reinforces its long-term commitment to delivering integrated solutions for navigation, communication, safety, and situational awareness across both commercial and defense sectors.
Expanding a Legacy of Maritime Innovation
Based in Linköping, Sweden, the newly renamed FLIR TransponderTech will continue to develop, manufacture, and market its renowned portfolio of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), VHF Data Exchange System (VDES), and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies.
For decades, TransponderTech has been at the forefront of maritime communication and navigation innovation, supporting applications ranging from commercial shipping and coastal surveillance to naval operations and aerospace systems. By integrating into the Teledyne ecosystem, FLIR TransponderTech gains access to Teledyne’s global resources, engineering expertise, and distribution network—positioning it for sustained growth and accelerated innovation.
“The addition of FLIR TransponderTech expands Teledyne’s capabilities across the maritime domain, enhancing our ability to offer complete, end-to-end solutions,” said George Bobb, President and Chief Executive Officer of Teledyne. “From autonomous underwater vehicles to advanced sensor networks and navigation systems, Teledyne’s products are vital to ensuring safety, efficiency, and intelligence at sea. TransponderTech’s highly complementary communication and navigation technologies strengthen our leadership in marine, defense, and aerospace markets.”

A Stronger, More Integrated Portfolio
As part of Teledyne’s Marine Group, FLIR TransponderTech will collaborate closely with existing business units, combining expertise in imaging, data fusion, and communication technologies to create next-generation systems for connected vessels and fleets.
The integration will drive new synergies across Teledyne’s established brands:
- Raymarine — A global leader in recreational and light commercial marine electronics, known for radar, sonar, and navigation systems.
- FLIR Marine — Specialists in thermal imaging and sensor technologies for maritime safety and situational awareness.
- ChartWorld — Providers of digital navigation data and voyage planning solutions for commercial fleets.
- Teledyne CARIS — Experts in hydrographic mapping and marine geospatial software used for charting and coastal monitoring.
Together, these businesses represent one of the most comprehensive maritime technology portfolios in the world—spanning surface, subsea, and airborne applications. The addition of FLIR TransponderTech strengthens Teledyne’s position as a one-stop provider for advanced maritime and communication solutions, addressing the growing needs of digital transformation in the maritime industry.
Delivering Next-Generation Maritime Communications
FLIR TransponderTech’s expertise in AIS and VDES systems is especially relevant as the global maritime industry evolves toward smarter, more connected vessels. These technologies form the backbone of modern maritime communication, enabling secure, real-time exchange of navigational data between ships, ports, and traffic management authorities.
AIS and VDES are also critical for the development of autonomous and remotely operated vessels, which rely on high-integrity communication links for navigation and control. By combining these technologies with Teledyne’s imaging, sonar, and sensor data platforms, the company aims to enable a new era of maritime situational awareness and operational safety.
Moreover, FLIR TransponderTech’s GNSS innovations ensure precise positioning and timing capabilities, a key requirement for emerging maritime and aerospace applications. These systems enhance coordination in congested sea lanes, improve fleet management, and support mission-critical operations for defense, search and rescue, and offshore industries.
Supporting Civil, Military, and Space Applications
While maritime safety and navigation remain at the heart of FLIR TransponderTech’s mission, the company also plays an important role in aerospace and space-based communication systems. Its transponder and VDES solutions are increasingly used for tracking and monitoring aircraft, satellites, and other high-value mobile assets.
By integrating into Teledyne, the brand will be able to expand these applications even further—leveraging Teledyne’s global footprint, deep R&D investments, and cross-domain expertise spanning aerospace, defense electronics, and marine instrumentation.
Commitment to Customers and Innovation
FLIR TransponderTech will continue to serve its existing customer base, including shipbuilders, maritime authorities, defense organizations, and OEM partners, under the same trusted brand. Its team in Linköping will remain a hub for R&D and production, ensuring continuity, technical excellence, and long-term customer support.
“Teledyne and FLIR share a common vision: to enhance safety, efficiency, and connectivity across the world’s most demanding environments,” Bobb added. “This acquisition not only strengthens our product portfolio but also deepens our commitment to innovation in communication and navigation technologies—both at sea and beyond.”
