Expansion aims to boost U.S. cable manufacturing capacity, support clean energy growth, and create new jobs in North Carolina.
LS Cable & System USA, Inc. (LSCUS), the U.S.-based subsidiary of LS Cable & System Ltd. (LS C&S), has announced a major $50 million investment to expand its manufacturing facility in Tarboro, North Carolina. The move reflects the company’s long-term strategy to strengthen domestic production, support the nation’s growing energy infrastructure needs, and reinforce the resilience of the U.S. supply chain. With demand for electricity and advanced grid infrastructure rising across the country, LS Cable & System is positioning its North American operations to meet the needs of utilities, renewable energy developers, data center operators, and industrial customers.
The expansion project will add two new Continuous Catenary Vulcanization (CCV) production lines at the Tarboro facility. CCV technology is a key process in the manufacturing of high-quality medium-voltage power cables, which are widely used in distribution networks and large industrial applications. By installing the additional CCV lines, LSCUS will significantly increase its production capacity, enabling the company to respond more quickly to customer demand and support the rapid electrification and modernization of the grid.
In addition to increasing manufacturing output, the expansion will bring tangible economic benefits to the region. Employment at the Tarboro facility is expected to grow from approximately 250 workers to around 335, creating new job opportunities in Edgecombe County and strengthening the local economy. The investment also reinforces North Carolina’s role as a key manufacturing hub in the southeastern United States.
State and federal officials welcomed the announcement, highlighting both its economic impact and its importance to the nation’s infrastructure. North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said the project demonstrates the company’s confidence in the state’s business environment and manufacturing workforce. He emphasized that North Carolina offers one of the largest manufacturing workforces in the Southeast, making it an attractive location for companies seeking to expand advanced production capabilities.
North Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley also praised the investment, noting that it will strengthen the state’s advanced manufacturing sector while supporting critical energy infrastructure. He noted that onshoring advanced manufacturing helps build a more resilient supply chain while creating good-paying jobs. Senator Ted Budd echoed those sentiments, pointing out that LS Cable & System has become an important part of eastern North Carolina’s business community by producing infrastructure essential to the country’s energy and economic systems.
Local leaders also highlighted the project’s impact on the community. U.S. Congressman Don Davis stated that the investment reflects a commitment to job creation and long-term economic growth in the region. He noted that as industrial energy demand increases nationwide, investments in manufacturing and infrastructure will be crucial to supporting the country’s future development.
At the state level, North Carolina Senator Kandie Smith emphasized the importance of sustainable growth in rural communities, stating that investments like this help ensure long-term competitiveness and resilience. State Representative Shelly Willingham added that the project would strengthen the county’s tax base while creating new jobs and resources for schools, infrastructure, and essential services.
Local economic development leaders and officials also expressed strong support. Bob Pike, President of the Carolinas Gateway Partnership, described the expansion as a testament to the company’s commitment to the region and the growing demand for power distribution cables. Tarboro Mayor Tate Mayo said the investment reflects confidence in the local workforce and the town’s long-term economic potential, adding that the project will strengthen the local economy while supporting critical infrastructure nationwide.
Executives from LS Cable & System highlighted the strategic importance of the investment as part of the company’s broader global expansion. Gisu Kim, Regional President of North America for LS Cable & System Ltd., described North America as one of the company’s most important growth regions. He said the Tarboro expansion will strengthen the regional manufacturing base, enhance supply chain resilience, and position the company to respond quickly to rising demand across utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors.
Jeong Hyeon, President and CEO of Gaon Cable Co., the parent company of LSCUS and a subsidiary of LS C&S, emphasized the importance of advanced manufacturing and technology leadership. He noted that adding new CCV production capacity will support the reliable delivery of high-quality power distribution solutions across North America.
Taewon Son, President and CEO of LS Cable & System USA, said the investment will allow the company to significantly scale its medium-voltage manufacturing capabilities while maintaining high quality standards. He added that the Tarboro facility already has a strong operational foundation, and the new production lines will enable the company to grow alongside its customers and support critical infrastructure projects across the United States.

The Tarboro project is part of a broader wave of investments by LS Cable & System and its subsidiaries across North America. In April 2025, LS GreenLink USA began construction on Phase 1 of a major advanced cable manufacturing facility in Chesapeake, Virginia. The project includes a 750,000-square-foot plant, a 660-foot Vertical Continuous Vulcanization tower, and a dedicated pier to support high-voltage direct current submarine cable production, with more than 330 jobs expected to be created.
Later, in December 2025, the company announced another major investment in Chesapeake, representing the largest capital investment in the history of the Hampton Roads region. That project is expected to create approximately 430 jobs while expanding manufacturing capabilities in copper recycling, magnet wire production, and rare-earth magnet manufacturing.
In January 2026, LS Cable & System USA announced plans for a logistics center in La Porte, Texas, to support its growing busduct business across North America. During the same month, LS Cable & System Mexico announced an investment in Querétaro to expand busduct production capacity and build new automotive cable lines to support both traditional and electric vehicles.
Together, these projects demonstrate LS Cable & System’s broader commitment to expanding advanced manufacturing across North America. By investing in new facilities, production lines, and logistics infrastructure, the company aims to build a more resilient supply chain while meeting the growing demand for electrification and energy infrastructure.
Once completed, the Tarboro expansion is expected to improve operational efficiency, strengthen domestic cable supply, and solidify LS Cable & System USA’s position as a key supplier of medium-voltage power cables in the U.S. market.
