Penguin Solutions Names Stephen Cumming as New Senior Vice President and CFO

Penguin Solutions Appoints Stephen Cumming as CFO to Support AI-Driven Growth

Penguin Solutions, an AI Factory Platform company focused on data center infrastructure and memory solutions, has appointed Stephen Cumming as its new Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Cumming’s appointment is effective immediately and comes as the company enters fiscal 2027 with growing demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure and plans to scale its business.

The leadership change is expected to strengthen Penguin Solutions’ financial and operational capabilities as the company seeks to capitalize on increasing investments in production AI. Cumming brings extensive experience in financial leadership, operational scaling, investor relations, and corporate strategy across the infrastructure systems, software, services, and semiconductor industries.

“We enter fiscal 2027 with strong AI-driven momentum, meaningful operating leverage, and a clear strategy to scale our AI Factory Platform business,” said Kash Shaikh, President and CEO of Penguin Solutions. “We are pleased to welcome Stephen at this exciting time for Penguin. Stephen’s extensive public-company experience and track record of operational rigor will strengthen our executive leadership team as we drive disciplined execution, pursue durable, profitable growth and remain obsessed with our customers’ success.”

Experienced Financial Leadership

Cumming joins Penguin Solutions with a career spanning both public and private companies. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Edgio, where he was responsible for the company’s financial leadership and strategy.

Before joining Edgio, Cumming served as CFO of Cambium Networks, a global provider of networking solutions. During his tenure, he helped lead the company through its initial public offering in 2019, giving him extensive experience managing the financial and operational requirements associated with a publicly traded technology company.

He previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Kenandy, Inc., a cloud-based enterprise software company.

Cumming also brings more than two decades of experience in the semiconductor industry. He spent 21 years working in the sector, including serving as Chief Financial Officer of Atmel Corporation and holding senior finance leadership positions at Fairchild Semiconductor and National Semiconductor.

His combination of semiconductor, software, infrastructure, and public-company experience is expected to complement Penguin Solutions’ expanding focus on AI infrastructure and memory technologies.

“I am excited to join Penguin Solutions at this important stage in its growth,” said Cumming. “The Company has built a differentiated position at the intersection of data center AI infrastructure and memory, with a significant opportunity ahead as customers scale production AI.”

Cumming added that he looks forward to working with Shaikh and the broader leadership team to scale the business efficiently, maintain financial discipline, and convert growth into sustainable earnings, cash flow, and long-term shareholder value.

Cumming holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Surrey and is a UK Chartered Management Accountant.

Leadership Transition Comes as AI Demand Accelerates

Cumming’s appointment comes at a significant point for Penguin Solutions and the broader technology industry. The rapid expansion of generative AI and other advanced AI applications is driving organizations to invest in data center capacity, computing systems, memory, networking, and specialized infrastructure.

Penguin Solutions is positioning itself to benefit from this trend through its AI Factory Platform, which is designed to help customers build and operate data centers optimized for AI workloads.

The company combines infrastructure software, memory technologies, compute systems, services, and partner technologies to provide customers with an integrated approach to deploying AI infrastructure.

Penguin Solutions says its platform is designed to help enterprises, sovereign AI initiatives, and neocloud providers accelerate AI deployments, optimize token economics, and improve the return on their AI investments.

As customers move from AI experimentation toward large-scale production deployments, the demand for efficient and scalable infrastructure is expected to remain an important growth driver for the company.

Aaron Johnson Returns to Finance Leadership Role

With Cumming taking over as CFO, Aaron Johnson will return to his previous position as Vice President of Finance and Accounting. Johnson had served as Penguin Solutions’ Interim CFO since July 2026.

The transition allows the company to add an experienced external financial executive while retaining continuity within its finance organization.

Management said Cumming’s experience will help support disciplined execution as Penguin Solutions expands its AI Factory Platform business and works to achieve profitable, sustainable growth.

Fiscal 2026 Results and Investor Update

Penguin Solutions also announced that it had released its fourth-quarter and full-year fiscal 2026 financial results in a separate announcement.

Company management scheduled a conference call and webcast for October 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time, or 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time, to discuss the results and provide additional information about the company’s financial performance and outlook.

Investors can access the webcast and related financial materials through Penguin Solutions’ investor relations website. The company also provided registration information for investors seeking to participate in the conference call.

The financial update provides investors with an opportunity to assess Penguin Solutions’ performance as it begins fiscal 2027 and evaluates the company’s ability to capitalize on growing AI infrastructure demand.

Focus on Sustainable Growth

Penguin Solutions enters the new fiscal year with a strategy centered on scaling its AI Factory Platform while maintaining financial discipline. The company believes its expertise in data center AI infrastructure and memory solutions gives it a differentiated position as enterprises and governments expand their AI capabilities.

However, management acknowledged that the company continues to operate in an environment affected by a range of market and economic factors. These include fluctuations in technology spending, changing demand for memory products, supply chain conditions, geopolitical developments, tariffs, currency movements, customer demand, competitive pressures, and broader macroeconomic conditions.

The company also faces risks associated with technological changes, product introductions, manufacturing, customer concentration, pricing volatility, acquisitions, access to capital, and changes in the markets it serves.

Penguin Solutions cautioned investors that its expectations regarding future growth, AI demand, operating leverage, financial performance, and shareholder value are forward-looking statements and are subject to various risks and uncertainties.

The company said actual results could differ materially from its expectations and encouraged investors to review its filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a more detailed discussion of these risks.

Building the AI Infrastructure of the Future

Penguin Solutions describes itself as the AI Factory Platform Company, providing solutions for enterprises, sovereign AI programs, and neocloud providers.

Its platform brings together data center design expertise, infrastructure software, advanced memory, computing systems, services, and partner technologies. The company aims to help customers deploy AI infrastructure more quickly while improving efficiency and maximizing the value of their investments.

The appointment of Stephen Cumming adds an experienced financial leader to the company as it seeks to scale this business.

With AI adoption continuing to drive demand for high-performance computing and data center infrastructure, Penguin Solutions sees significant opportunities ahead. Cumming’s background across semiconductor, networking, software, and infrastructure businesses is expected to help the company navigate that expansion while maintaining a focus on profitability, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation.

As Penguin Solutions begins fiscal 2027, the new CFO will work alongside CEO Kash Shaikh and the broader leadership team to execute the company’s growth strategy and strengthen its financial foundation for the next phase of AI-driven expansion.
