Developers Introduce Exciting New App Experiences for iPhone Duo

Developers Introduce Innovative App Experiences for Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, iPhone Duo, is opening new possibilities for mobile applications, gaming, entertainment, and productivity. Starting this Friday, users will be able to explore a growing collection of apps and games specifically optimized to take advantage of the device’s innovative folding design, expanded display, and powerful hardware.

Featuring an inner display that is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display, iPhone Duo gives developers more screen space to create immersive and flexible experiences. From watching movies and following live sports to editing videos, managing work, and playing advanced mobile games, applications are being redesigned to make the most of the device’s unique form factor.

Both displays share the same aspect ratio, allowing applications to transition smoothly between the outer and inner screens. Content scales proportionally as users open or close the device, helping them continue activities without losing their place. Combined with the A20 Pro chip and new iPhone capabilities such as Split View, iPhone Duo aims to deliver a balance of entertainment, productivity, and portability.

“The response to iPhone Duo from our developer community has been incredible,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. She highlighted how developers are reimagining applications for the larger display, enabling experiences ranging from immersive video playback and console-quality gaming to multitasking across multiple windows.

Apple will introduce new editorial collections featuring iPhone Duo-compatible apps and games on the App Store this Friday. Additional application updates are expected throughout the year. Users will be able to identify optimized applications through a dedicated “Made for iPhone Duo” badge on App Store product pages.

Enjoy Immersive Entertainment Anywhere

The larger inner display creates new opportunities for streaming platforms to deliver more engaging viewing experiences. Netflix, Prime Video, Paramount+, and Apple TV are among the services adapting their applications to the device’s flexible design.

Netflix allows users to browse short-form video Clips on the outer display before opening the device to continue watching on the larger inner screen. The application also adapts its presentation as users rotate, open, or partially fold the phone, supporting different viewing positions.

Tom Richards, Netflix’s senior director of Engineering, explained that the updated experience is designed to accommodate different viewing situations, allowing users to move naturally from discovering new content to watching a full-length show.

Prime Video also takes advantage of the folding design. When the device is partially open, video content can appear on the upper half of the display while X-Ray information, including cast details and additional content, occupies the lower section. Paramount+ offers expanded browsing and enhanced playback controls for its shows and live channels.

Sports fans can also benefit from the additional screen space. Applications from Major League Baseball (MLB) and the PGA Tour provide access to live coverage, highlights, scores, statistics, and leaderboards.

MLB executive vice president of Media, Business Development, and Product Kenny Gersh noted that iPhone Duo allows fans to view live action and supporting information simultaneously. When the device is partially folded and placed on a table, the game can appear on the upright portion while real-time statistics remain visible on the lower section.

Boost Productivity With Split View

Beyond entertainment, iPhone Duo introduces new opportunities for mobile productivity. Its Split View capability allows users to open two applications side by side on an iPhone, making it easier to manage multiple tasks without constantly switching between screens.

Microsoft Word and Outlook are preparing desktop-class experiences for the device. Word users will be able to view documents alongside formatting tools, while Outlook can display an inbox beside an open email. These layouts are designed to make editing documents and managing communications more convenient on the go.

Zoom uses the larger display to create a more immersive video conferencing experience, allowing participants to view shared content and other attendees simultaneously. Slack provides a broader view of workspaces, channels, and task automation tools, while Salesforce makes customer information and business dashboards easier to access.

Calendar and organization applications are also benefiting from the expanded screen. Fantastical brings calendars, tasks, and menus together in one view, allowing users to review their schedules more efficiently. Its developers say the larger display creates an experience closer to using the application on a Mac or iPad.

Note-taking and task-management apps, including Notewise, Things, and Bear, are also making use of the additional space to bring documents, notes, organizational tools, and AI-powered features into more accessible layouts.

New Opportunities for Content Creators

The folding design also offers new possibilities for photography, video production, and social media content creation.

Detail uses Apple’s new Core AI framework to run AI models directly on the device, supporting faster and more private editing workflows. Creators can view video alongside its transcript, making it easier to edit interviews and podcasts. Features such as caption generation, filler-word removal, and audio enhancement are designed to simplify the editing process.

Instagram presents more posts and Stories on screen, while its Edits application gives creators additional room to view video timelines, editing controls, and footage together. Video-editing application VLLO similarly uses the larger display to provide access to more editing tools and visual content at once.

These improvements aim to reduce the need to navigate between multiple menus and screens, helping creators complete more of their work directly from their smartphones.

A Bigger Canvas for Mobile Gaming

Powered by the A20 Pro chip and a custom vapor chamber, iPhone Duo is designed to deliver sustained performance during demanding gaming sessions. Apple says the device offers up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

Gameloft’s Asphalt Legends takes advantage of the expanded display, allowing players to race more than 350 cars against up to seven online opponents. Detailed vehicle designs, dynamic lighting, and wider views of the racing environment contribute to a more immersive experience.

Zenless Zone Zero adapts its controls to different device positions, allowing players to enjoy its fast-paced action whether the phone is open or closed. UnGodly, a dark fantasy role-playing game from Azra Games, also adjusts its interface and controls to accommodate the two displays. The game is scheduled to launch on the App Store in November, while Zenless Zone Zero is expected to receive its iPhone Duo optimization next month.

Apple Arcade titles, including Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade, are also taking advantage of the folding design. Their experiences are intended to feel immersive when the device is open while remaining convenient for shorter gaming sessions when closed.

Independent developers are experimenting with the physical fold itself. Deck-Man, for example, transforms the device into a retro cassette-player-inspired experience, allowing users to select an album and interact with a virtual cassette before closing the phone to listen to music from Apple Music.

Smarter Shopping, Cooking, and Everyday Activities

Everyday applications are also being redesigned to make practical tasks easier. NYT Cooking uses the partially folded device to display detailed recipes and instructional videos, allowing users to follow cooking steps, watch demonstrations, and set timers while keeping their hands free.

Shopping applications are benefiting from the additional screen space as well. LTK lets users watch creator videos while browsing the products featured in them. Lowe’s provides more room to examine materials, finishes, and design details, while Shop displays more products and order information.

For dining and local discovery, OpenTable adapts its interface to make restaurant information, availability, and reservations easier to navigate. DoorDash plans to introduce an expanded delivery-tracking map later this year. Yelp places maps and reviews side by side, helping users compare local businesses without repeatedly switching screens.

A New Direction for Mobile App Experiences

With its larger display, flexible viewing positions, powerful processor, and multitasking capabilities, iPhone Duo gives developers new ways to rethink how people use mobile applications.

From streaming and gaming to professional collaboration, creative work, shopping, and everyday planning, the growing range of optimized apps demonstrates how foldable hardware can support more adaptable mobile experiences.

As additional applications receive updates throughout the year, Apple expects the App Store to offer an expanding selection of experiences designed specifically for iPhone Duo, giving users more ways to work, create, communicate, and enjoy entertainment on a single device.
