A classic Airstream trailer has been reimagined as a vibrant, mobile art installation — the Hangeul Truck. Wrapped in artist Ik-Joong Kang’s signature Hangeul Cubes, this traveling masterpiece toured six major U.S. universities this fall, transforming each stop into a celebration of Korean language, culture, and creativity. Alongside the art, visitors explored Samsung’s latest AI-powered innovations, making the experience a fusion of tradition and technology.
Co-Creating With Galaxy AI
At the heart of the Hangeul Truck experience was a message station where students and visitors could write reflections or notes to their future selves. Powered by Galaxy AI, each message was instantly translated into Korean and displayed on a large LED screen, turning personal thoughts into a dynamic, collective artwork.
By blending individual voices with the visual poetry of Hangeul, participants helped co-create a living canvas — one that bridged languages, ideas, and generations through the shared act of self-expression.
Self-Expression, Creativity, and Discovery in the Spirit of Hangeu
Beyond the digital installation, guests were invited to immerse themselves in a range of playful, hands-on experiences inspired by Korean heritage and Galaxy innovation. A selfie kiosk, designed by Kang, offered creative photo frames, while erasable Hangeul tattoos let visitors carry a part of the experience with them.
“The Hangeul Truck is where the past meets the present — where Hangeul, created by King Sejong centuries ago, now breathes with the dreams of today’s young generation,” said Kang. “What made this project meaningful was its openness — art not confined to an exhibition hall, but moving freely through various cities and campuses.”
Celebrating the Legacy of Hangeul
The Hangeul Truck tour ran from late September through early October, culminating in a special Hangeul Day celebration on October 9 at Times Square, New York City.
By uniting art, culture, and AI-powered innovation, Samsung and the Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY) invited a new generation to rediscover the timeless beauty of Hangeul — and to experience how technology can bring people closer together across borders and languages.
