Garmin Enhances TXi™ Flight Displays with New EIS Arc Gauges and Expanded Engine Support
Garmin (NYSE: GRMN) has announced a new software update for its TXi™ family of flight displays, delivering significant enhancements to the Engine Indication System (EIS) for both turbine and piston aircraft. The update introduces newly designed arc gauges for improved visibility and readability, along with expanded engine compatibility—including support for Honeywell TPE-331-10/-10N engines.
Enhanced Arc Gauges for Greater Readability
The latest update transforms the appearance and functionality of TXi EIS displays by introducing redesigned arc gauges. These new half-arc style gauges feature increased font sizes—up by 50%—and larger, more prominent pointers with tails to improve visibility. The gauges use clear color bands and radial indicators to highlight normal operating ranges and limitations, making engine data easier to interpret at a glance. Additionally, minimum and maximum pointer values are now displayed directly on the arc, providing pilots with faster, more intuitive access to critical engine parameters.
Expanded Engine Compatibility
With this release, TXi EIS now supports Honeywell TPE-331-10 and -10N engine models. This expands the system’s applicability to several popular aircraft, including:
- Twin Commander 695/695A/695B (with TPE-331-10 engines)
- Cessna Conquest 441 (with TPE-331-10N engines)
- Mitsubishi MU-2B-40 Solitaire and MU-2B-60 Marquise (with TPE-331-10 engines)
Additionally, the update includes support for the Piaggio P.180 Avanti equipped with Pratt & Whitney PT6A engines.
Simplifying the Cockpit
Garmin’s TXi EIS allows aircraft owners and operators to modernize their cockpit by replacing outdated engine instruments with intuitive digital displays. With clearer, real-time readouts of engine, fuel, and electrical data, pilots benefit from enhanced situational awareness and simplified system monitoring.
Additional benefits of TXi EIS
With TXi EIS, pilots can view EIS information on a 10.6-inch TXi flight display which can accommodate primary flight display (PFD) information; a multifunction display (MFD) with a vertical EIS strip; or on a dedicated 7-inch TXi flight display. When using multiple TXi displays, pilots can also benefit from display backup capability to help prevent the loss of PFD or EIS information during a single-display failure. To assist with tracking maintenance activities, controlling operating costs and analyzing overall engine health, built-in engine data logging is included with TXi EIS. When paired with the GDL 60 datalink, this information is automatically uploaded to the flyGarmin® website. Exceedances as well as engine and flight cycles can also be recorded to help identify maintenance needs.
