Gree Electric Appliances has successfully secured the bid for three major renovation projects for Bandeirantes, Brazil’s largest broadcasting operation group. The projects cover the headquarters building, the iconic TV tower, and a commercial shopping mall, with a combined cooling capacity of approximately 1,700 refrigeration tons. This significant achievement once again reinforces Gree’s strong market position and growing influence in Brazil.
Founded in 1937, Bandeirantes—often referred to simply as “BAND”—is one of Brazil’s most influential and respected integrated media groups. It created Brazil’s first 24-hour news radio channel as well as Latin America’s first dedicated traffic radio network. Today, the group encompasses more than 40 media brands, including TV channels, radio stations, and digital platforms. With its programs reaching over 150 million people across the country, Bandeirantes continues to play an important role not only in Brazilian media but also in shaping public opinion and cultural trends throughout South America.
Over the years, Bandeirantes has also maintained strong ties with international media organizations. A notable example is its collaboration with China Media Group. In 2019, the two sides jointly produced the program China Story, which aired on BAND’s news channel. China Media Group also donated political documentaries to Bandeirantes, further strengthening cross-cultural communication and cooperation. As a central broadcast platform for major national events, Bandeirantes is best known for hosting and transmitting every Brazilian presidential election debate, solidifying its high standing in both political circles and among the general public.
The collaboration between Gree and Bandeirantes began in early April 2022, when the media group first announced its intention to renovate the cooling systems of its three core buildings. Gree quickly mobilized its technical teams to conduct comprehensive HVAC design and equipment evaluations. The engineering team took into careful consideration the unique characteristics of each facility, local climate conditions, and the habits and comfort requirements of occupants. After extensive analysis, Gree proposed a highly customized solution: water-cooled screw chillers for the office headquarters, air-cooled screw chillers for the TV tower, and direct-expansion VRF outdoor units for the shopping mall.
Once this initial plan received preliminary approval from the customer, Gree and Bandeirantes entered a detailed optimization phase. However, upgrading facilities of this scale—particularly those with aging infrastructure—posed several challenges. The decades-old power distribution system required extensive adaptation to accommodate the new cooling equipment.
The mechanical room in the headquarters building was extremely limited in space, making equipment layout and component installation particularly difficult. After reviewing these constraints, Gree’s overseas sales representatives worked closely with the company’s HVAC design specialists and technical teams. Together, they developed a custom approach involving multiple compressors to ensure stable power distribution and meet the total cooling demand of the system.
Coordination among various departments, along with frequent technical discussions with the client, ensured that all non-standard requirements were fully addressed. Another significant challenge involved noise control—an essential consideration for a media company where audio clarity is crucial for recording and live broadcasting. To meet the strict acoustic requirements, Gree proposed several noise-reduction solutions. Through joint efforts from the overseas sales team and engineering experts, the final plan successfully reduced unit noise levels by 40% compared to the original specifications. By the end of October 2022, all technical and design targets had been met.
Thanks to the superior quality of its products, Gree’s persistent commitment to engineering excellence, and the professionalism of its project team, Gree officially won the bid at the end of November 2022. The success of this project represents far more than a single contract—it highlights Gree’s accelerating growth in global markets. Supported by initiatives such as the Belt and Road framework and the company’s continuous investment in innovation, Gree has solidified its status as a leading Chinese brand expanding across the world. From the Middle East to South Asia, and now across Latin America, Gree is building a reputation for delivering reliable technology backed by expert service.
Winning the Bandeirantes project has further strengthened Gree’s presence in Brazil and enhanced its brand recognition throughout the region. Moving forward, Gree will continue providing Brazilian customers with high-quality air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions. By advancing its technologies and elevating service performance, the company remains committed to promoting a greener, more energy-efficient future for Latin America—and contributing to sustainable development worldwide.
