NBA® 2K27 Launches Worldwide With Major Gameplay and Mode Updates
NBA®2K has officially announced the worldwide launch of NBA® 2K27, the latest installment in its long-running basketball video game franchise. Developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, the new title is now available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch™ 2.
Designed to deliver a deeper and more flexible basketball experience, NBA® 2K27 introduces overhauled gameplay alongside major updates across its most popular modes. From competitive action on the court and an expanded City experience to deeper franchise management and new player progression systems, the latest edition is designed to give different types of players more ways to compete and play.
At the heart of NBA® 2K27 is a redesigned gameplay experience focused on balance, responsiveness, and skill. The game also introduces several franchise-first features, including the first co-ed City, a new MyCAREER Eras mode, a 100-year MyNBA Legacy, and expanded progression options across MyPLAYER and MyTEAM.
“With overhauled, balanced gameplay at its core, this year’s release introduces a depth of content and features to satisfy every kind of player,” said Greg Thomas, President at Visual Concepts. “From the new MyCAREER Eras mode and the first Co-Ed City in franchise history, to a 100-year MyNBA Legacy and Player XP on every MyTEAM card, every aspect of NBA 2K27 has been built to give players more ways to compete.”
Overhauled Gameplay Designed Around Skill
NBA® 2K27 delivers significant changes on both sides of the ball, powered by ProPLAY® technology. The updated gameplay system gives players more control over how they attack defenders while introducing new tools for creating space and generating scoring opportunities.
Offensive players can use new moves, including step-through up-and-unders, while a fully customizable dribbling system provides additional control over ball-handling styles.
Defensive gameplay has also received a major overhaul. Redesigned hands-up defense, an improved shot contest system, expanded defensive cutoffs, and a new collision system are designed to make defensive positioning and timing more meaningful.
The revamped Takeover system and smarter AI further enhance the experience, ensuring that each possession can develop differently depending on player decisions and circumstances.
Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey and Gameplay Director Mike Wang provide a deeper look at the changes in the NBA® 2K27 Gameplay Courtside Report.
Welcome to the First Co-Ed City
One of the biggest changes in NBA® 2K27 comes to The City, which is now officially co-ed for the first time in franchise history.
Players can create a female MyPLAYER and take that character into The City, where male and female MyPLAYERs can compete alongside one another across multiplayer modes. All MyPLAYERs use the same framework for on-court performance, supporting competitive parity regardless of character gender.
The City has also received new environments and activities influenced by community feedback. The REC now rotates between five different venues from game to game, while Street Kings introduces a legendary court.
A new Daily Rivals mode adds another layer of competition by putting daily standings on the line.
Players can also visit Crew HQ, a dedicated home base for squads that provides spaces for practice, ranked competition, private games, Crew progression, and seasonal tournaments. For newcomers, Casual Corner offers an optional rookie-friendly environment designed to help players become comfortable with The City.
MyCAREER Gets Its Biggest Updates Yet
MyCAREER receives one of its most significant expansions in years, giving players more control over how their basketball journey develops.
The new MyCAREER Eras mode allows players to experience the NBA through one of five legendary eras, offering different historical settings and career possibilities.
Players can also experience “Fire & Concrete,” described as the most expansive cinematic narrative in the series to date. The story presents a modern comeback journey while adding a more cinematic dimension to the MyCAREER experience.
For players who prefer cooperative experiences, NBA® 2K27 introduces the first co-op MyCAREER in franchise history, allowing friends to team up and progress together.
A More Versatile MyPLAYER Builder
The MyPLAYER Builder has been redesigned to provide greater flexibility when creating a custom basketball character.
New systems include Badge Tokens, reworked Badge Progression, and the all-new Synergy system, giving players more ways to customize and develop their builds.
For the first time, players can also create female MyPLAYERs and bring them into the co-ed City experience.

MyNBA Introduces a 100-Year Legacy
For franchise-focused players, MyNBA returns with a rebuilt core experience designed to put greater emphasis on management and decision-making.
The mode adds community-requested roster tools and improved CBA contract negotiations, while the new GM Trust system makes executive reputation an important part of running a franchise.
The biggest addition is MyNBA Legacy, a player-locked RPG experience that spans an extraordinary 100-year universe. The new format gives players a long-term progression experience while adding another dimension to the franchise mode.
MyTEAM Gives Every Card More Value
NBA® 2K27 also expands MyTEAM with new progression and collection systems.
An expanded Exchange now accepts any Player Card, excluding Free Agent cards. The new Player XP system allows every card to level up through gameplay, giving users an additional reason to continue playing with different cards.
The Auction House is also unified across PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch™ 2, creating the largest pool of community-listed cards in MyTEAM history.
Fan-favorite modes including Triple Threat Online and Clutch Time Online return as part of a rotating selection of limited-time modes.
Expanded WNBA Experiences
NBA® 2K27 continues to expand its WNBA-focused offerings through The W and MyWNBA, both of which include dedicated single-player experiences.
Updates include a Build-as-You-Go progression system, an updated Game Attribute System, new Team Badges and Teammate Badges, and additional tools for managing a WNBA franchise.
These changes provide players with more control over both their individual careers and broader team management.
NBA 2K HQ App Extends the Experience
The new It 2K HQ app gives players additional ways to interact with NBA® 2K27 outside the game itself.
Players can create MyPLAYER builds from virtually anywhere and upload them directly to their console. Builds can also be shared with friends through QR codes.
The app additionally features Crew and friend messaging, daily leaderboards, rewards tracking, improved Face Scan functionality, and mobile-exclusive daily login rewards.
Enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 Experience
It® 2K27 takes advantage of Nintendo Switch 2 hardware with several platform-specific improvements.
For the first time, the game offers a 60 FPS Performance Mode on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside Fidelity Mode.
The platform also features party-style motion mini-games, including a 3PT Contest, Blacktop-style games, Dunk Contest, and Pop-a-Shot. Nintendo Switch 2 players can also take advantage of GameShare and full mouse support.
NVIDIA DLSS 5 Brings Enhanced PC Visuals
PC players with compatible hardware can experience enhanced visual fidelity through NVIDIA DLSS 5.
Designed in collaboration between NVIDIA and Visual Concepts, DLSS 5 introduces 3D-Guided Neural Rendering exclusively for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. The technology is designed to improve the appearance of materials and lighting while preserving the integrity of athlete scans, delivering a more photorealistic presentation.
DLSS 5 is optional for players using supported GeForce RTX 50 Series hardware and GeForce NOW Ultimate.
