Nidec ACIM Inaugurates Cutting-Edge Industrial Campus in Qingdao, Strengthening Its Global Manufacturing Footprint
Nidec Appliance, Commercial and Industrial Motors (ACIM), a global leader in motor and inverter technology, has officially inaugurated its new state-of-the-art industrial campus in Jiaozhou, Qingdao. Covering an impressive 108,000 m²—equivalent to 15 football fields—the Nidec Qingdao Industrial Park is now fully operational and poised to become a major manufacturing and innovation hub for the company across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
The advanced facility consolidates two of Nidec’s long-established Qingdao operations into one cohesive site. With 75 modern production lines, the campus is capable of producing 18 million motors and more than 20 million electronic inverters annually. This integration marks a significant milestone in Nidec ACIM’s more than two-decade presence in the region, enhancing operational efficiency, scaling production, and reinforcing the company’s commitment to excellence in manufacturing.
By bringing motor and electronics production under the same roof, the new campus fosters closer synergy between teams, processes, and logistics. This vertically integrated approach not only streamlines execution but also enables faster response times and improved service for over 70 customers across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. It represents a bold step forward in Nidec’s mission to create responsive, agile, and sustainable manufacturing operations.
Sustainability at the Core
From its inception, the Qingdao campus was envisioned as a benchmark for sustainable industrial development. Every aspect of the facility has been designed with environmental responsibility in mind. The campus structure supports carbon-neutral operations, and its advanced waste management system ensures that less than 1% of waste is sent to landfills. Additional eco-friendly features include rainwater harvesting systems, on-site solar energy generation, and natural gas-powered kitchens. Charging stations for electric bikes further promote green mobility among employees.
Beyond environmental sustainability, the site emphasizes social responsibility and employee wellbeing. The campus includes thoughtfully designed amenities such as rest areas, maternity spaces, changing rooms, showers, and secure personal lockers. These features contribute to a safe, comfortable, and inclusive workplace, aligning with Nidec’s broader commitment to people-centered development.
A Vision Grounded in People and Purpose
“What makes me proudest is how this campus came to life—shaped with vision, grounded in care, and guided by the people who will make it thrive,” said Katia Drusian, CEO of Nidec ACIM. “Sustainability is not an afterthought; it’s embedded into the foundation of this facility and influenced every decision we made. The Qingdao campus is a continuation of our long-standing journey in China, where we operate four major facilities and employ nearly 2,300 people. It reflects our goal to grow responsibly and in close partnership with local institutions.”
A key factor in the project’s success was the strong collaboration between Nidec and local government authorities. The responsiveness and support provided by the Chinese government allowed the entire facility to be constructed and brought online in record time—just 18 months—ensuring a smooth transition and uninterrupted continuity of operations.
Strategically situated within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Demonstration Zone, the campus is positioned to benefit from China’s national development strategies. This location also opens new doors for deeper regional collaboration, new service offerings, and future expansions.
Future-Ready and Innovation-Driven
Innovation lies at the heart of the Qingdao campus. The facility includes an 8,500 m² Research & Development center housing eight advanced laboratories. These labs are designed to accelerate product development cycles and foster cross-functional collaboration across teams. In addition, the site features real-time digital monitoring and a fully automated warehouse, positioning it at the forefront of smart manufacturing.
“Our goal with this campus was to build more than just a factory—we wanted to create an evolving infrastructure that supports long-term innovation and growth,” said Alberto Casnati, President of Nidec Global Appliance. “Its scale and integrated design allow us to operate closer to our customers, understand their needs more deeply, and deliver faster, more flexible solutions. This strengthens our partnerships across key industries such as home appliances, HVAC, food service, and refrigeration.”
The campus also supports future ambitions within Nidec’s broader structure. With ample space for expansion, it is already being prepared to host electronics production for the Nidec Appliance Automotive Division (AAD), enhancing the company’s supply chain capabilities and enabling greater vertical integration.
“This site is strategic for many reasons,” noted Valter Taranzano, CEO of Nidec AAD. “It gives us flexibility to grow alongside the needs of our customers and our business. We’re currently preparing for the next phase of expansion, which includes supporting our automotive division and exploring new opportunities in partnership with the government and regional stakeholders.”
A Testament to Long-Term Commitment
“Nidec opened its first Chinese facility in Dalian back in 1992,” said Mr. Mitsuya Kishida, CEO of Nidec Group. “Today, with the opening of this new campus in Qingdao, we reaffirm our long-standing confidence in China and our belief in sustainable, innovation-driven growth. This achievement is the result of years of collaboration and shared vision. With Qingdao, we take a bold step forward, guided by consistency, competence, and ambition.”
