NVIDIA Expands Project G-Assist With Major Update at Gamescom
At Gamescom, NVIDIA unveiled the first major update to Project G-Assist, its experimental on-device AI assistant designed to simplify system tuning and gameplay with natural voice and text commands.
Smarter, Faster, and Available on More PCs
The update introduces a new AI model that is 40% more memory-efficient, improves tool-calling intelligence, and broadens G-Assist compatibility to all RTX GPUs with 6GB or more VRAM — including laptops.
Users can now:
- Run diagnostics to optimize game performance
- Track frame rates, latency, and GPU temperatures
- Adjust GPU and peripheral settings, such as keyboard lighting
Activating G-Assist is simple: install the latest NVIDIA app and Game Ready Driver on Aug. 19, download the update, and press Alt+G. Another update in September will add laptop-specific controls for features like NVIDIA BatteryBoost and Battery OPS.
The New G-Assist Plug-In Hub
In partnership with mod.io, NVIDIA is launching the G-Assist Plug-In Hub — a central place to discover, download, and install plug-ins. Users can even ask G-Assist directly which plug-ins are available and install them using natural language.
The recent G-Assist Plug-In Hackathon showcased creative new ideas from the community, including:
- Omniplay — pulls lore from wikis or lets gamers take real-time notes
- Launchpad — enables quick launch and toggling of custom app groups
- Flux NIM Microservice — generates AI images directly within G-Assist
Winners of the hackathon will be announced on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Building custom plug-ins is straightforward, relying on JSON and Python, with the Project G-Assist Plug-In Builder simplifying development through natural language coding.
RTX Remix: Breathing New Life Into Classics
NVIDIA also revealed a path-traced particle system coming to the RTX Remix modding platform in September. The system adds fully simulated physics, dynamic shadows, and realistic reflections to in-game visual effects.
RTX Remix continues to grow rapidly, with 350+ active projects, 100+ released mods, and over 2 million downloads. Beloved titles like Half-Life 2, Portal 2, Deus Ex, and Need for Speed: Underground are being revitalized with modern RTX technologies, combining nostalgic gameplay with cutting-edge visuals.
As part of its Gamescom showcase, NVIDIA also announced the winners of the NVIDIA & ModDB RTX Remix Mod Contest, highlighting the most impressive community creations.
