One of the most notable additions to the platform is 3D-MC Edge. Traditionally, this interruption would halt work until tracking was restored. Hybrid Lock prevents that downtime by seamlessly transitioning to GNSS tracking during such interruptions, allowing excavation to continue without delay.

Topcon further enhanced safety and efficiency with its onboard load weighing system for excavators. By weighing material during loading operations, the system helps ensure even load distribution in trucks and trailers. This reduces the risk of overloading, which can result in fines, excess wear on vehicles, and safety hazards. It also minimizes fuel waste associated with underloaded trucks, improving fleet efficiency and lowering operational costs.

Next-Generation Robotic Total Station

Supporting the Hybrid Lock functionality is the new GTS-M1 robotic total station. Designed specifically for machine control applications, the instrument tracks a 360-degree prism mounted on heavy construction equipment, enabling precise local positioning.

The GTS-M1 is particularly valuable in high-precision tasks such as fine grading, road milling, and paving, where exact tolerances are critical. It also proves indispensable in environments where GNSS signals are obstructed by dense tree cover, tunnels, urban canyons, or other barriers. In such conditions, satellite-based positioning may be unreliable, making local tracking systems essential. By integrating seamlessly with 3D-MC, the GTS-M1 strengthens Topcon’s hybrid positioning strategy and supports uninterrupted operations in challenging job site environments.

AI-Driven Job Site Safety

Beyond machine control, Topcon highlighted advancements in job site safety through the Topcon Awareness System. This artificial intelligence-driven solution uses digital cameras mounted on construction vehicles to monitor surroundings and detect potential hazards.

The system identifies movement or obstructions within configurable zones around the machine, providing blind-spot detection alerts directly to the operator and to a cloud-based portal. By enabling operators to react quickly to pedestrians, equipment, or unexpected obstacles, the system helps reduce the likelihood of accidents. Additionally, the captured data creates a record that can be used for post-incident analysis and ongoing safety improvements. As construction sites grow more complex, AI-based monitoring tools are becoming increasingly important for risk mitigation.

Cloud-Based Site Management

To support the broader connected ecosystem, Topcon introduced enhancements to Topcon Site Manager, its cloud-based management platform for machine control and construction solutions. Site Manager enables remote data exchange, work order creation, and centralized oversight of connected equipment.

Project managers can transmit design files directly to machines, retrieve productivity data, and generate detailed work orders for follow-up. The platform’s compatibility with ISO 15143-4 standards allows it to connect mixed fleets and integrate weighing systems, facilitating a unified view of equipment performance and project metrics. By consolidating machine data, load information, and workflow management into a single interface, Site Manager reinforces Topcon’s platform-centric approach.

Load Weighing for Aggregate Operations

Topcon also showcased the LM-1000 load weighing system for aggregate handlers. This trade-approved onboard weighing solution is designed for loaders of all types and aims to enhance both safety and operational efficiency.

By accurately measuring material as it is loaded, the LM-1000 prevents overloading and reduces stress on trucks, loading machines, and tires. It also lowers fuel consumption by ensuring vehicles operate at optimal capacity. All load movements and stockpile transactions are recorded and reported through Site Manager, providing robust accounting capabilities and improving inventory oversight.

Expanding into Interior Spatial Positioning

In addition to heavy construction technologies, Topcon expanded its geomatics portfolio with the introduction of Topcon Origo, part of its Capture Reality 3D mass data solution suite. Origo is a spatial positioning system designed specifically for interior building layout applications.

Unlike traditional optical or laser-based layout methods that rely heavily on line-of-sight conditions, Origo employs reusable spatial reference maps and localization technology to determine real-time position. The handheld system combines a scanner and controller on a single rover pole, allowing easy mobility across job sites without the need for calibration or leveling.

According to Neil Vancans, head of Topcon’s geomatics unit, Origo establishes a reliable fixed origin point even in complex interior environments. By overcoming the line-of-sight limitations of conventional instruments, the system streamlines layout workflows and ensures that each point is placed accurately according to design specifications.
