Hitachi Launches Hitachi Digital to Drive AI-Powered Business Growth

Hitachi to Launch Hitachi Digital, Uniting Cloud, Data and AI Expertise to Accelerate Enterprise Transformation

Hitachi, Ltd,has announced plans to launch Hitachi Digital Inc., a new global digital services company, on April 1, 2027. The initiative follows the integration plan announced in January 2026 and aims to strengthen Hitachi’s global digital transformation capabilities by bringing together its U.S. subsidiaries, GlobalLogic Inc. and It Digital Services LLC, under a unified company operating under the Hitachi brand.

The new organisation will focus on helping enterprises transform their operations by combining cloud technologies, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), software engineering, and enterprise systems expertise. Through this integrated approach, It Digital aims to help customers achieve measurable business outcomes while supporting the modernisation and reliable operation of mission-critical systems.

With approximately 35,000 professionals across 27 countries and more than 880 active clients, It Digital will combine digital product engineering with enterprise technology and operational expertise. Its capabilities will also draw on Hitachi’s more than 100 years of experience developing and managing essential infrastructure across industries.

The company intends to support customers throughout the digital transformation lifecycle, from developing new digital products and AI capabilities to modernising existing enterprise systems and operating complex technology environments at scale.

Combining Digital Engineering and Enterprise Operations

It Digital will bring together the complementary strengths of GlobalLogic and Hitachi Digital Services to deliver comprehensive digital solutions. GlobalLogic contributes digital engineering, software development, product innovation, and design expertise, while Hitachi Digital Services brings enterprise technology, cloud, and operational capabilities.

By integrating these capabilities, the company aims to provide a single partner for organisations seeking to modernise their technology environments, introduce AI-powered solutions, and improve business performance.

The company will focus on developing sustainable solutions across both physical and digital technology environments. This includes creating advanced digital products, integrating AI into business processes, upgrading enterprise applications, and ensuring that technology platforms operate securely and reliably.

A key component of this strategy will be its Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs), who will work directly within customers’ operational environments. These specialists will collaborate with client teams and technology partners to identify business challenges, implement practical solutions, and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies.

Anand Birje, CEO and Chairman of It Digital, said organisations increasingly need a technology partner that understands industry operations, maintains strong technology ecosystem relationships, and can manage the entire transformation process.

He explained that Hitachi Digital brings digital engineering and operational expertise together within one global organisation, supported by Hitachi’s industrial knowledge. This approach is intended to help customers move from strategic planning to implementation and ongoing operations with a trusted partner.

Driving Digital Transformation Across Industries

It Digital will support enterprise transformation through industry-specific expertise and services designed for the AI era. Its principal service areas will include Physical AI, Data and Intelligence, Cloud and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Enterprise Applications.

These capabilities will help organisations modernise legacy infrastructure, strengthen data-driven decision-making, develop intelligent applications, and integrate AI into complex business operations.

The company also plans to use insights gained from customer engagements to strengthen its intellectual property and develop differentiated solutions. One important initiative is HMAX by Hitachi, a next-generation suite of solutions designed to apply AI to social infrastructure and industrial environments.

In addition, It Digital intends to expand strategic partnerships throughout the technology ecosystem, spanning data platforms, enterprise technology providers, and advanced AI research organisations.

The combined capabilities of GlobalLogic and It Digital Services have already received recognition from industry analysts. According to ISG Research, the organisations have demonstrated strengths in areas including intelligent robotics and Physical AI services, digital engineering, and generative AI services.

Gowtham Sampath, Assistant Director and Principal Analyst at ISG Research, highlighted the complementary capabilities of the two businesses. It Digital Services has demonstrated expertise in connecting edge intelligence, robotics, and AI-driven decision-making within secure, mission-critical environments. GlobalLogic has developed strengths in AI-enabled engineering, research and development services, intelligent operations, connected experiences, and integrated platform and application services.

Together, these capabilities form the foundation of It Digital’s strategy to combine industrial expertise with advanced digital engineering and enterprise-grade AI solutions.

Accelerating Enterprise AI and Physical AI

A major differentiator for It Digital will be its access to Hitachi Group’s extensive operational technology (OT) capabilities and industry-specific knowledge.

This experience will support the adoption of both enterprise AI and Physical AI across sectors such as manufacturing, mobility, and energy. Physical AI combines artificial intelligence with physical systems, enabling intelligent machines and industrial equipment to interact with and respond to real-world environments.

The company reported that synergy revenue generated with the It Group increased by 46% year over year during the first half of the fiscal year, highlighting the growing contribution of collaboration across the organisation.

Forward Deployed Engineers will play a central role in these initiatives by working alongside customers to implement AI solutions in complex operational environments. Their teams will include AI specialists, data scientists, and engineers who can translate emerging technologies into practical applications.

It Digital will continue investing in AI, data, and cloud talent while strengthening technology partnerships and pursuing acquisitions that expand its capabilities. The company also plans to accelerate adoption of Lumada 3.0, Hitachi’s platform and business initiative focused on digital innovation and customer co-creation.

Through these efforts,It Digital aims to expand its global business and help customers realise greater value from digital transformation investments.

Supporting Hitachi’s Global Digital Strategy

Jun Abe, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Systems and Services Sector at Hitachi, said the launch represents an important step in evolving Hitachi into a global digital services company capable of delivering end-to-end solutions, from enterprise AI to Physical AI.

He emphasised that the integration of GlobalLogic’s digital engineering expertise with Hitachi Digital Services’ enterprise and operational capabilities will create a stronger foundation for supporting customers throughout their transformation journeys.

By combining these capabilities with Hitachi’s OT expertise and knowledge of social infrastructure, the company intends to maximise customer value, expand the adoption of Lumada 3.0, and contribute to the objectives of Hitachi’s management plan, “Inspire 2027.”
