Liberty Energy and PowerBridge Launch Strategic Joint Venture to Accelerate Powered Data Center Campus Development

Liberty Energy Inc. (NYSE: LBRT) and PowerBridge LLC have announced the formation of a strategic joint venture (JV) designed to accelerate the development of large-scale powered data center campuses. By combining PowerBridge’s expertise in digital campus development with the integrated power generation and energy management capabilities of Liberty Power Innovations (LPI), a Liberty Energy company, the partnership aims to meet the growing demand for infrastructure supporting hyperscale cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and other high-density digital workloads.

The collaboration marks a significant step toward addressing one of the industry’s greatest challenges: delivering reliable, scalable power alongside ready-to-build digital infrastructure. The joint venture’s initial focus will be on supporting PowerBridge’s planned 2-gigawatt (GW) Alpha Digital Campus in West Texas while establishing a scalable platform capable of supporting additional gigawatt-scale powered campus developments across the region.

Addressing the Growing Demand for AI Infrastructure

As AI adoption, cloud computing, and high-performance computing continue to expand, demand for data centers has increased dramatically. However, access to sufficient electrical power has become one of the primary constraints facing developers and technology companies.

The Liberty Energy–PowerBridge joint venture seeks to solve this challenge by integrating power generation, campus development, and energy management into a unified delivery model. Rather than developing power infrastructure and data center sites independently, the partnership will coordinate both from the earliest stages of development, enabling customers to deploy facilities more quickly while reducing execution risk.

PowerBridge contributes its expertise in creating pad-ready digital campuses complete with critical site infrastructure and regional fiber connectivity. Liberty Power Innovations will complement those assets by designing, building, and operating modular power generation systems alongside advanced energy management, power quality optimization, and grid integration technologies.

Together, the companies believe they can create a repeatable model capable of accelerating the delivery of next-generation digital infrastructure projects while providing greater certainty around power availability and operational performance.

Initial Focus on the Alpha Digital Campus

The first project under the joint venture is PowerBridge’s Alpha Digital Campus, a planned 2-GW powered campus located in West Texas. The development is expected to become one of the region’s largest digital infrastructure projects, serving hyperscale cloud providers, AI companies, and other organizations with significant computing requirements.

The project’s initial phase will include more than 300 megawatts (MW) of power generation capacity, with multiple expansion phases planned over time as customer demand increases.

According to the companies, the first delivery of power is anticipated during the fourth quarter of 2027, with additional deployment expected throughout the first half of 2028.

Beyond supporting technological growth, the Alpha Digital Campus is being developed with an emphasis on long-term community benefits. The companies said the project will prioritize workforce development, community engagement, and responsible stewardship of local resources while creating economic opportunities throughout the region.

Combining Complementary Expertise

PowerBridge was established to address the growing intersection between energy infrastructure and digital development, recognizing that future data center projects require integrated planning across both sectors.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Alex Hernandez said partnering with Liberty significantly expands the company’s ability to execute projects at gigawatt scale.

“We are delighted to partner with Liberty as we execute our powered campuses at gigawatt scale,” Hernandez said. “PowerBridge was founded on the belief that solving the convergence of energy and digital infrastructure requires an integrated approach. Our mission is to deliver powered campus solutions that not only support hyperscale digital infrastructure but also strengthen regional power systems through new generation assets.”

Hernandez noted that combining PowerBridge’s development platform with Liberty’s operational expertise creates a scalable framework capable of supporting future digital infrastructure projects throughout West Texas and beyond.

The partnership also reflects a broader industry trend toward integrated infrastructure development, where power generation, energy storage, grid optimization, and digital campus construction are coordinated rather than developed independently.

Simplifying Large-Scale Infrastructure Delivery

Liberty Energy CEO Ron Gusek emphasized that enterprise customers increasingly prefer integrated partners capable of managing both energy and infrastructure requirements within a single development strategy.

“The most sophisticated customers are increasingly seeking partners that can simplify the delivery of large-scale digital infrastructure projects,” Gusek said. “Power availability has become one of the defining factors in modern data center development. Customers need integrated solutions that coordinate power generation, energy management, and campus planning from the very beginning.”

According to Gusek, the joint venture enables Liberty and PowerBridge to help customers secure reliable electrical power more quickly while reducing uncertainty associated with permitting, construction, and infrastructure deployment.

He added that the collaboration positions both companies to support the rapid expansion of AI computing, cloud services, and other digital technologies that require substantial electrical capacity.

A Scalable Model for Future Growth

While the Alpha Digital Campus serves as the joint venture’s first project, both companies view it as the foundation for a broader development platform.

PowerBridge has assembled a portfolio of gigawatt-scale powered campus opportunities across West Texas designed to serve future hyperscale customers. The joint venture provides the organizational structure needed to expand into these developments while maintaining consistent project delivery standards.

The partnership aligns ownership, capital investment, operational responsibilities, and long-term management across both campus development and power generation activities.

Before moving forward with all planned initiatives, the companies noted that the joint venture remains subject to completing additional commercial agreements, ancillary documentation, and obtaining required regulatory approvals.

Supporting the Next Generation of Digital Infrastructure

Industry analysts continue to forecast significant growth in electricity demand driven by AI training, cloud computing, and large-scale data processing. These applications require massive computing resources, creating unprecedented demand for powered data center campuses capable of supporting hundreds of megawatts—or even gigawatts—of electrical capacity.

By integrating modular power generation with campus development and fiber infrastructure, Liberty Energy and PowerBridge aim to provide customers with faster deployment timelines and greater confidence in project execution.

The companies believe this approach will become increasingly important as utilities, developers, and technology companies work together to meet accelerating demand without compromising reliability or grid stability.
