EIZO Launches Five Optical-Bonded Maritime Monitors for ECDIS, Radar, and Navigation Systems

EIZO Releases Five Maritime Monitors with Optical Bonding, Establishing Its Next-Generation Family for ECDIS / RADAR Applications and Navigation Systems

EIZO Corporation today announced a new generation of maritime monitors with optical bonding for ECDIS / RADAR and maritime navigation systems, completing its full lineup: DuraVision MDF2701W-T, MDF2401W / MDF2401W-T, and MDS1901 / MDS1901-T. For safe and reliable vessel navigation, ship bridges require robust monitors that deliver consistently high visibility of electronic charts and radar information, day and night. Since 2014, EIZO has been meeting these demands with specialized monitors engineered to perform in the harsh conditions of maritime environments. Joining the 27-inch MDF2701W released in April 2024, these five new models establish a complete, next-generation family of maritime monitors available in 27-, 23.8-, and 19-inch sizes, with both non-touch and touch panel variants. Developed under the same concept as the flagship model, all monitors share a unified feature set to meet diverse installation needs onboard ships and in offshore facilities.

EIZO’s in-house optical bonding fills the gap between the LCD module and cover glass with resin to reduce ambient reflections and prevent condensation during harsh temperature changes, resulting in a highly visible screen. In testing, the flagship MDF2701W with 350 cd/m2 brightness and optical bonding delivered superior readability and reduced reflections compared to a non‑bonded 500 cd/m2 screen. A non-bonded monitor would require an estimated 1160 cd/m2 to achieve comparable visibility.* The new models are engineered to deliver the same high visibility using this optical bonding technology.

The -T models (MDF2701W-T, MDF2401W-T, and MDS1901-T) feature projective capacitive (PCAP) touch technology which detects up to 10 simultaneous touch points for intuitive operation.

To meet the specialized needs of ECDIS systems, backlight brightness, gamma, and RGB color settings are factory-calibrated for accurate color reproduction. The monitors comply with IEC 61174, IEC 62288, and IEC 62388 for ECDIS and RADAR applications and meet the requirements of major maritime classifications, including DNV (Norway/Germany), LR (UK), ABS (USA), NK (Japan), and EU RO MR, to align with IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations.

Designed for seamless integration into maritime consoles, the panel mount structure supports front-side installation. Optional dedicated stands provide 15° incremental tilt, allowing up to 60° upward and 30° downward adjustment when placed upright on a table, and 30° upward or downward tilt when ceiling-mounted.

To ensure long-term reliability, EIZO designed the monitors with low power consumption and advanced thermos-fluid analysis to prevent heat buildup, negating the need for fans and reducing the risk of hardware deterioration from external air intake.

A portion of the plastic used in the monitor is recycled plastic. This includes ocean-bound plastic that is disposed of within approximately 50 km of the coast, contributing to resource reuse.

Additional Features (All Models)

  • IEC 60945 compliance for maritime equipment reliability
  • Wide dimming range of 0.05 to maximum brightness (varies by model)
  • Anti-fingerprint (AF) finish
  • IP65 (front) and IP22 (rear) for dust and water protection
  • AC and DC power inputs for redundancy
  • DisplayPortTM, DVI-D, and D-Sub video inputs
  • RS232-C and USB Type-B communication interfaces
  • 24-hour use, 3-year manufacturer’s warranty for long-term reliability

Additional Features (Touch Panel Models)
