MaxLinear Launches RackCommander™ Control-Plane Portfolio for Next-Generation AI Infrastructure

MaxLinear Unveils RackCommander™ Control-Plane Portfolio for Next-Generation AI Infrastructure

CARLSBAD, Calif. — MaxLinear, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXL), a leader in high-performance connectivity, mixed-signal, and power-management semiconductor solutions, today introduced RackCommander™, a comprehensive portfolio of connectivity, monitoring, control, and power-management products designed to enable modern rack-level control-plane architectures for AI, cloud, enterprise, and edge infrastructure.

Meet RackCommander™ — a portfolio of connectivity, monitoring, control, and power-management solutions designed for next-generation AI rack architectures.

As artificial intelligence infrastructure evolves from traditional server-centric systems toward highly integrated, rack-scale architectures, the need for a more capable and resilient control plane is becoming increasingly important. Modern AI racks can incorporate multiple compute trays, accelerators, networking systems, power shelves, liquid-cooling subsystems, sensors, service processors, and management controllers. Coordinating these distributed resources requires connectivity and management technologies that extend well beyond the capabilities of conventional server management architectures.

RackCommander brings together MaxLinear technologies across the critical functions required to manage these increasingly complex systems. Building on the company’s recently announced Coronado™ and Laguna™ USB-UART solutions, the portfolio combines full- and high-speed USB UARTs, RS-485 transceivers, GPIO expanders, power-management devices, eFuses, and power-protection technologies.

Together, these solutions provide a broad silicon foundation for rack management, console access, monitoring, telemetry, infrastructure communications, and serviceability across AI and high-performance computing environments.

RackCommander is designed to support control-plane and console-access requirements across Universal Baseboards (UBBs), multi-node systems, and rack-scale architectures. By providing connectivity and control capabilities across multiple infrastructure subsystems, MaxLinear helps customers develop scalable management architectures capable of operating alongside production networks.

Enabling the Rack-Scale AI Control Plane

The rapid adoption of AI is driving significant changes in data-center infrastructure. Instead of treating each server as an independent system, next-generation deployments increasingly manage compute, networking, power, cooling, and monitoring resources at the rack level.

This shift creates new requirements for the infrastructure control plane. Rack-scale systems need reliable communication paths for console access, telemetry, sideband management, power monitoring, and infrastructure control. They also require solutions that can help simplify system development while improving visibility and serviceability.

RackCommander addresses these requirements with technologies that can support:

  • Scalable console connectivity across compute, networking, and storage systems
  • High-speed sideband connectivity for service access and infrastructure management
  • Rack-level aggregation of management, monitoring, and telemetry signals
  • Infrastructure communications between power, cooling, sensors, and management systems
  • Expanded monitoring and control across distributed rack resources
  • Power visibility and protection to support resilient AI infrastructure

By integrating these capabilities into a unified portfolio, MaxLinear enables hyperscalers, OEMs, ODMs, and infrastructure providers to simplify the development of rack-management architectures while supporting the operational demands of next-generation AI systems.

The RackCommander portfolio is designed to help customers accelerate the deployment of rack-scale AI infrastructure while reducing system complexity. By providing a broad range of control-plane components from a single semiconductor supplier, MaxLinear can help customers simplify architecture development, improve infrastructure visibility, and support scalable management across increasingly dense systems.

“AI infrastructure is creating a new control-plane architecture that extends far beyond the traditional BMC,” said Amit D. Bavisi, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and General Manager of MaxLinear’s Analog Mixed-Signal Business Unit. “Future AI racks must securely connect compute nodes, power shelves, cooling systems, sensors, and service processors into a unified management domain. MaxLinear has assembled a comprehensive silicon portfolio spanning full- and high-speed USB-UARTs, RS-485 communications, GPIO expansion, telemetry, power management, eFuse, monitoring, and protection. With RackCommander, we are helping customers build the control-plane foundation required for next-generation rack-scale AI infrastructure.”

“We are excited to work with MaxLinear and a top-tier cloud service provider on RackCommander,” said Jack Tu, Senior Vice President and Chief Product Marketing Officer of WPI Group. “As AI infrastructure evolves toward rack-scale architectures, customers are looking for proven technologies that can accelerate development and deployment while simplifying the management of increasingly complex systems. RackCommander brings together a broad range of MaxLinear products that can help simplify rack management, improve system visibility, and bring next-generation AI infrastructure solutions to market faster.”
