Lumentum Reports Strong Fiscal 2026 Results as AI-Driven Optical Demand Accelerates
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Lumentum Holdings Inc. reported financial results for the fourth quarter and full fiscal year ended June 27, 2026, highlighting strong year-over-year revenue growth and increasing demand for optical technologies supporting artificial intelligence and next-generation data center infrastructure.
The company said its business is benefiting from a major shift in how data centers are designed and connected. As AI workloads require increasingly higher levels of computing speed and bandwidth, optical connectivity is becoming more important across data center networks and, increasingly, within server racks.
Lumentum President and CEO Michael Hurlston said the company is positioned to benefit from this structural transformation, with several emerging product categories beginning to contribute to growth.
“Lumentum is positioned at the heart of a secular industry shift,” Hurlston said. He noted that the increasing scale of AI workloads is driving data center architects to rely more heavily on optical links for high-speed connectivity.
The company is seeing traction across several areas, including Optical Circuit Switching (OCS) solutions, cloud optical modules, 1.6T technology, ultra-high-power lasers for co-packaged optics (CPO), ELS modules, and near-package optics (NPO) engagements.
According to Lumentum, these developments represent early evidence that optical technologies are moving beyond traditional data center networking and beginning to penetrate in-rack connectivity. This expansion could significantly increase the company’s addressable market as AI systems become larger and more interconnected.
Fourth-Quarter Fiscal 2026 Results
Lumentum generated $1.01 billion in net revenue during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, up substantially from $808.4 million in the third quarter and more than double the $480.7 million reported in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025.
The strong revenue performance reflects growing demand for Lumentum’s optical technologies, particularly products serving cloud computing and AI infrastructure markets.
On a GAAP basis, however, Lumentum reported a net loss of $7.2 billion, or $84.65 per diluted share, for the quarter.
The unusually large GAAP loss was primarily the result of a significant one-time, non-cash accounting charge associated with the equitization of certain amounts of the company’s convertible notes. This transaction resulted in a $7.8 billion loss on debt extinguishment.
As a result, the GAAP loss does not reflect the underlying operating performance of the business during the quarter. Lumentum therefore also highlighted its non-GAAP results, which exclude certain items that management believes are not representative of ongoing operations.
On a non-GAAP basis, the company reported net income of $326.3 million, or $3.23 per diluted share.
That compares with non-GAAP net income of $225.7 million, or $2.37 per diluted share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2026. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025, Lumentum reported non-GAAP net income of $63.3 million, or $0.88 per diluted share.
The substantial improvement in non-GAAP profitability reflects the company’s significant revenue expansion and growing exposure to higher-demand optical products.
Full-Year Fiscal 2026 Performance
For the full fiscal year ended June 27, 2026, Lumentum reported $3.01 billion in net revenue, compared with $1.6 billion in fiscal 2025.
The company therefore delivered strong year-over-year revenue growth as demand for optical components and modules increased across data center and communications applications.
On a GAAP basis, Lumentum reported a net loss of $6.9 billion, or $92.96 per diluted share, compared with GAAP net income of $25.9 million, or $0.37 per diluted share, in fiscal 2025.
As with the fourth-quarter results, the fiscal-year GAAP loss was heavily influenced by the $7.8 billion one-time, non-cash loss on debt extinguishment related to the equitization of certain convertible notes.
Excluding these and other non-operating adjustments, Lumentum’s underlying financial performance was significantly stronger.
For fiscal 2026, the company reported non-GAAP net income of $782.3 million, or $8.67 per diluted share. That compares with non-GAAP net income of $146.4 million, or $2.06 per diluted share, in fiscal 2025.
The year-over-year improvement demonstrates the impact of Lumentum’s rapid revenue growth and increasing participation in high-value optical markets.

Stronger Position in the AI Infrastructure Market
Lumentum’s management believes the company is entering an important phase of growth as artificial intelligence reshapes data center architecture.
Modern AI systems require enormous volumes of data to move between processors, memory, storage, and networking systems. As computing performance increases, traditional electrical connectivity can face challenges related to bandwidth, power consumption, signal integrity, and scalability.
Optical technologies can help address these challenges by enabling high-speed data transmission across increasingly demanding infrastructure environments.
Lumentum is targeting this opportunity through a broad portfolio of optical technologies.
One of the emerging growth areas is 1.6-terabit optical connectivity, which the company expects to become increasingly important as cloud service providers and AI infrastructure operators deploy higher-performance networks.
The company is also seeing growing demand for ultra-high-power lasers designed for co-packaged optics, an architecture that integrates optical components more closely with high-performance computing and networking devices.
Lumentum also received an initial order for ELS modules, while continuing to expand its engagements in near-package optics.
These technologies could allow optical connectivity to move closer to the computing elements themselves, potentially creating new markets beyond conventional data center interconnects.
Expanding the Optical Total Addressable Market
Lumentum believes the shift toward in-rack optical connectivity could materially expand its total addressable market.
Historically, optical technologies have played a major role in communications networks and connections between data center systems. However, the rapid growth of AI workloads is creating demand for optical connectivity at increasingly shorter distances and within increasingly dense computing environments.
The company views the early adoption of technologies such as CPO and NPO as evidence of this transition.
OCS solutions also represent another important growth opportunity. By enabling more flexible management of optical connections, optical circuit switching can potentially improve the efficiency and scalability of large AI data centers.
Lumentum’s cloud module business is similarly benefiting from the transition toward higher-speed networking.
Together, these technologies give the company exposure to several stages of the evolving AI infrastructure stack.
Improved Financial Position
At the end of fiscal fourth quarter 2026, Lumentum held approximately $2.7 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments.
The company’s cash position decreased by approximately $433.9 million from the end of the third quarter of fiscal 2026.
Despite the quarterly decline, Lumentum’s year-end liquidity position was substantially stronger than it was one year earlier.
At the end of fiscal 2025, the company held approximately $800 million in cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments. By the end of fiscal 2026, that figure had increased to approximately $2.7 billion, representing an increase of roughly $1.9 billion over the fiscal year.
The stronger liquidity position provides Lumentum with additional financial flexibility as it invests in manufacturing capacity, technology development, and opportunities associated with the expanding AI infrastructure market.
Outlook for Fiscal 2027
Lumentum expects its growth trajectory to accelerate as AI-related demand continues to increase.
For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, the company expects revenue to reach a midpoint of approximately $1.25 billion.
Hurlston said the guidance indicates that Lumentum is reaching its target financial model more than one quarter ahead of schedule, reflecting stronger-than-expected momentum across key areas of the business.
The company’s outlook is supported by several structural growth drivers, including increasing AI compute requirements, higher bandwidth demand, continued adoption of advanced optical connectivity, and growing deployment of technologies such as OCS, CPO, NPO, and 1.6T optical modules.
As data centers evolve to support increasingly sophisticated AI workloads, Lumentum expects optical technologies to play a greater role not only between servers and systems but also within racks and closer to computing components.
Looking Ahead
Lumentum enters fiscal 2027 with strong momentum, substantial revenue growth, and increasing exposure to the AI infrastructure market.
The company’s fiscal 2026 results demonstrate the rapid expansion of its business, with annual revenue nearly doubling compared with the prior year and non-GAAP profitability increasing significantly.
While the company’s GAAP results were affected by a large one-time, non-cash accounting charge related to convertible notes, its non-GAAP results highlight the underlying strength of the operating business.
The combination of AI-driven bandwidth requirements, increasing adoption of high-speed optical technologies, and the expansion of optical connectivity into new areas of data center architecture creates a significant long-term opportunity for Lumentum.
With demand for AI infrastructure continuing to rise, the company expects its optical technologies to become increasingly important to the next generation of high-performance data centers and computing systems.
